Spring Maneki Neko Pin
April's exclusive pin club design.
While the exact origin of the maneki neko, or “lucky cat”, is shrouded in legend, the first uses came about in Japan during the Edo period. The name comes from the word “maneku” which means to welcome or beckon. Maneki neko are said to bring in good luck, which is apparent in its beckoning gesture. A raised left paw is said to welcome in customers, while the right paw beckons fortune and money. They are also often portrayed holding gold koban coins, currency from the Edo period, to further portray wealth.
