Koinobori Pin
May's exclusive pin club design. Carp banners that are traditionally hung on Children's Day in Japan.
Based on the Chinese legend that the carp that swam up a waterfall would become a dragon, these banners became a symbol for growth. Traditionally, each carp would represent a member of the family, with the black being the father, red being the mother, and blue being the oldest son. These days there is much more variety in color and format, and the holiday was renamed to be inclusive of all children. One of the most iconic displays of koinobori is at Tokyo Tower, with 333 banners hung to honor its height of 333 meters.
